"Delmon" - Oil Paint / 12x16 / 2004

Well, as you can see, this is my second Delmon Young undertaking.  This painting is for Mr. Young, in exchange for signing my first original painting of him.  It's started off pretty well, so, thus far, I'm pretty happy with it.  I haven't been able to paint nearly as much as I would like to lately, so it's been a struggle to get this painting started.  But, as you can see, I've got some of the initial background coloring in, and have started to add the shading to the right side of the painting -- his uniform, left arm and his hat, and also his bat.  But, anyways, these are the first two pictures, so enjoy.  And, have no fear, I'm sure I'll be adding more in the near future!

With these two pictures, you can see I've continued to add more detail and shading to the left (his left) side of his uniform, and added a lot more shading and detail to his left arm and face.  I have also worked more on his hat to get in the finishing details there.  I need to add more shading to his uniform, but am almost done with the right side of the painting.  I'm planning on finishing most of the shading on his face very soon, so there won't be much to finish up on after that -- that's the hardest and most time consuming part of the painting.  Until then, enjoy the new pictures and check back soon to hopefully see the finished product!

Well, I've finally added some new pictures of this painting.  Sorry for the delays, but I haven't had much time to work on this painting of late.  And, as you can see, I'm almost completely done with this painting.  Basically, all I have to work on is finishing up the shading and details on both of his hands, some touching up on his face, and some final shading on his left arm.  And, to finish it up, I will add a final layer of background.  Overall, it's some of the best shading and detail I've put into a face in one of my paintings -- so, I'm happy about that.  So, stay tuned for the final pictures before I send it off to Delmon!
Well, here you have it -- the finished product, "Delmon".  I've added some detail to the background to give it a portrait look, and finished up all the other final details.  I just added the varnish, so once that dries, it will be ready to be shipped out to Delmon.  He's currently playing in the Arizona Fall League, and should be finishing up soon.  I would expect to see him play at AA and maybe AAA later in this upcoming 2005 season.  If all goes well, he may even earn a September call-up to Tampa Bay, to give him some at-bat's with the big league club.  Delmon and B.J. Upton will help make the Devil Rays contenders in the coming seasons, so watch out AL East!
