"The Young & the Powerful" - Oil Paint / 12x16 / 2004 |
|
Well, this is my newest project / undertaking. I've even made a small adjustment, of changing the background color behind the pictures, to the teams colors of the Charleston RiverDogs. This is a 12x16 oil of 2003 #1 draft pick, Delmon Young. Yes, in case you were wondering, he's the younger brother of Dmitri Young. He's gonna be a great one, and amongst the great farm system of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He's already putting up monster #'s with the Charleston RiverDogs; who's uniform he just happens to be wearing in the painting. Anyways, as you can see, I'm doing my left-handed technique again, going right to left. I painted his left arm first, then his batting glove, and then his pants, and finally, some initial facial tones. I'm hoping this painting will go as smoothly as my last one - my 2nd Zack Grienke painting . So, that's that, but check back often as I'll be adding more and more info and pictures of this painting. |

The picture above and on the right, along with the picture at left, are the two newest picture additions. I've finished the right half of the painting, having added all the shading to his uniform, and his face, as well as added the background. I do have a few finishing touches to add to the helmet and his uniform, but at this point I'm ready to start the 2nd half of the painting. Everything is progressing smoothly, and I'm excited to have the painting done very soon. The exciting news about this painting is that Mr. Young has agreed to sign this painting for me, in exchange for painting something for him -- which I'm more than happy to do. It's always exciting to paint something for someone I'm a big fan of, like Delmon. I should have some new pictures to add in the next day or two; hopefully of a finished product. I will be sure to add some new pictures once I have the painting signed and framed, but that's going to be a month or two away. Keep checking back though! |

As you can see, here are the 3 newest photos I've added to the site. I've added the background to the top left portion of the painting. I've also started adding the shading and base colors to the left side of his jersey. I've only just started to add the color to his right arm, so it's still really light. All that remains -- is to finish adding the color and shading to his arm, and put the final shading on his uniform. I need to add some strong whites to his helmet, his uniform, and face to finish up those parts. And, the final addition, will be to finish the background on the left side. I should, more than likely, be finished with this painting in the next day or two. So, check back for the updates! |

The picture at left, you can see the drawing board that I have the painting taped to. I'm using a 12x16 canvas sheet, so it works best to attach it to my drawing board. There aren't too many changes from the previous pictures -- I've finished the background, and added the shading and color to his right arm. This leaves only finishing touches to get this painting done. I need to add some highlights to his helmet, his jersey, his face, and batting gloves. It shouldn't take long to get everything done...just a matter of how long it takes for the paint to dry completely so I can ship it to Charleston, so Mr. Young can sign it for me. Thanks for checking out the painting! |

The picture at left is the finished product -- autographed by Delmon Young, and signed by myself, and the final touch -- framed. I apologize for how blurry the picture is, but there are a few more that are better to make up for it. The picture at right turned out much better, and, as you can see, Delmon signed the painting in the bottom right corner of the painting. On that note, I'd like to thank Danielle and the Charleston RiverDogs for helping to achieve my goal of having Delmon sign my painting. I couldn't have done it without all their amazing help! And, of course, thanks to Mr. Young for his generosity. |

At left is a close-up of Young's autograph on my painting. I had him sign with an acrylic paint pen --actually the same one Keith Smart used to sign a different painting. And, finally, at right, is the final look; framed and signed, and hanging proudly on my wall. I actually originally intended to use this frame for my Zack Greinke painting I'm having signed, but I figured since this painting is already done, I might as well go ahead and frame it and hang it. Thanks for checking out the Delmon Young painting! And, thanks again everyone with the RiverDogs, and Mr. Young! |
